Though I grew up as a 2nd generation Asian immigrant living mainly in the southern part of the US, I have lived in NYC for almost 20 years and consider myself a New Yorker now. At work, my focus is on patent law mostly in the biopharmaceutical space. At home, my focus is on my daughter who will be starting college in the fall. My father, born in Korea but of Chinese nationality then, was living near Incheon, Korea during the Korean War and subsequently moved to a refugee camp in southern Korea before he immigrated to Taiwan and then, several years later, to the US. My mother, born in China, was separated from her sister and grandparents after the government shut down the border during a family trip to Taiwan. Growing up, my family did not discuss much of this history but refugee issues are close to my heart.
