Leadership Giving Discovery Manager

USA for UNFPA, established in 1998 and headquartered in New York City, is the US national committee for UNFPA, the United Nations Sexual and Reproductive Health Agency. LOCATION: Hybrid, Washington, DC or NYC metro areas

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 – $90,000

 

POSITION SUMMARY
USA for UNFPA is seeking a proactive and analytical fundraising professional to lead the identification and qualification of potential major donors through data-driven prospecting and direct engagement.
The Leadership Gifts Discovery Manager will focus on building a pipeline of high-net-worth individuals from USA for UNFPA’s existing donor database and external sources. Working in close coordination with the Database Manager, this role will conduct in-depth donor research, relationship mapping, and wealth screening to identify prospects with significant giving capacity. The Discovery Manager will also lead direct outreach efforts to assess donor interest, qualify giving potential, and transition engaged prospects to frontline fundraisers on the Leadership Giving team
Additionally, this role will be responsible for stewarding new mid-level donors ($1,000-$9,999), ensuring personalized outreach, strategic donor engagement, and a pipeline for recurring and increased major gift donations.
This is a critical role in expanding USA for UNFPA’s Leadership Giving program, ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified high-capacity donors and strengthening fundraising strategies to advance UNFPA’s mission.

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and continually refine the Discovery process to identify, qualify, and cultivate high-net-worth individuals from USA for UNFPA’s donor base and external networks, using strategic research, wealth screening, and relationship mapping to uncover prospects with significant philanthropic potential.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to unassigned and newly acquired donors through personalized emails, phone calls, and virtual or in-person meetings. Assess philanthropic interests and giving capacity, document insights, and transition qualified prospects to frontline fundraisers for continued cultivation and solicitation.
  • Collaborate with Leadership Giving fundraisers to develop tailored strategies that reflect donor interests and move prospects through the major gifts pipeline.
  • Oversee and manage the Discovery List in Raiser’s Edge NXT, coordinating exports, tracking engagement, and ensuring consistent pipeline movement and timely follow-up.
  • Conduct monthly screenings using tools such as iWave, ResearchPoint, and RENXT. Create detailed donor profiles and utilize prospect scoring models to prioritize outreach based on capacity, engagement, and alignment with UNFPA’s mission.
  • Leverage internal networks and board relationships to identify new prospects and support relationship mapping for high-capacity individuals.
  • Analyze donor data, giving patterns, and engagement trends to inform segmentation, outreach, stewardship, and upgrade strategies.
  • Track donor interactions and key performance indicators (KPIs) in Raiser’s Edge NXT. Generate regular reports to monitor pipeline health, qualification outcomes, and strategy effectiveness.
  • Draft compelling donor-facing materials, including acknowledgment letters, personalized reports, and tailored updates for Leadership Giving donors and Emeritus Board members.
  • Write and manage all Leadership Giving communications, including CEO updates, program collateral and copy, and stewardship materials.
  • Serve as marketing liaison for Leadership Giving. Provide oversight of copy for external appeals (in collaboration with vendor) and ensure planned giving messages are integrated into Individual Giving materials

 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years of experience in fundraising, prospect research, wealth screening, or major gifts pipeline development.
  • Strong understanding of moves management principles and the donor qualification and cultivation process.
  • Experience working with relational donor databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar CRM tools) to track and manage donor data.
  • Proficiency in wealth screening tools (e.g., Kindsight, DonorSearch, WealthEngine) to assess donor capacity and philanthropic affinity.
  • Excellent research and data analysis skills, with the ability to synthesize complex donor information into actionable insights.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to engage and build relationships with high-net-worth individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for global health, women’s rights, and international development, with an understanding of UNFPA’s mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

 

TRAVEL & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Occasional travel for donor meetings and engagement events may be required.
Availability for evening and weekend donor cultivation activities as needed.

 

HYBRID WORK AT USA FOR UNFPA

This position is based in the metro-DC/NYC area, with an emphasis on maintaining strong donor relationships through regular in-person engagements across the tri-state region.
